CHICKEN BUCKETS: THE UPCOMING STRUGGLE TO APPOINT A NEW CAMERON COUNTY COMMISSIONER COURT JUDGE AND COUNTY COMMISSIONER

THIS WILL PLAY OUT IN THE NEXT 6-10 WEEKS

THE SCENARIO:

Carlos Cascos will be sworn in as Cameron County Commissioners Court Judge on January 1, 2015. Sometime soon after that he will resign that position to take the office of Texas Secretary of State in the new Governor Greg Abbott administration. This will leave a vacancy for the position of Cameron County Commissioners Court Judge.

Cameron County Commissioner Dan Sanchez would then resign his position as County Commissioner to seek the position of County Judge vacated by Carlos Cascos. Sanchez will need 3 votes or a majority of those still eligible to vote on the Court Commission to be given the County Judge position. Remember, a quorum of the Commissioners must be present to hold the vote. Those eligible to vote will be Benavides, Dominguez, Garza, and Cascos.

A twist: When/if Sanchez resigns as Court Commissioner, a new Court Commissioner must be appointed to his Commission seat before he can become eligible to be appointed to be Cameron County Commissioners Court Judge to replace Cascos.
