The move, reported by Abdullah's spokesman and a U.N. official on Wednesday, further complicates Afghanistan's tense political transition.

08/27/14 Reuters: Afghan President Will Not Attend NATO Summit President Hamid Karzai will not attend a key NATO summit next week because of his disagreements with Washington over Afghan security needs after most foreign troops leave his country at the end of 2014, his spokesman said on Tuesday.

08/27/14 KP: Afghan intelligence eliminate 3 terrorist networks in Kabul The Afghan intelligence operatives eliminated at least three terrorist networks in capital Kabul during counter-terrorism operations. Haseeb Sediqi, spokesman for the National Directorate of Security (NDS), told reporters that the terrorist networks were plotting coordinating attacks in the city before they were arrested by intelligence operatives.

08/27/14 KP: 5 Afghan army soldiers martyred in IED attack in the past 24 hours At last 5 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were martyred following roadside bomb explosion, defense officials said Wednesday. Defense Ministry spokesman, Gen. Zahir Azimi, said the Afghan soliers were martyed following improvised explosive device (IED) attack in the past 24 hours.

08/25/14 Reuters: Afghan presidential inauguration delayed with candidates deep in conflict Afghanistan's next president was due to take over on Monday but an inauguration deadline has been pushed to September as rival candidates fail to agree on who won an election meant to mark the country's first democratic transfer of power.

08/25/14 ToloNews: Number of Illegally Armed Men on the Rise in Faryab Faryab Governor Mohammadullah Batash said that the number of illegal armed men in the province of Faryab has dramatically increased, undermining security and disrupting daily lives. Batash stressed that if the groups are not disarmed or legally recruited to join the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), the security of the province will further deteriorate.

08/25/14 ToloNews: Security Forces Go After Illegal Firearms in Parwan Parwan Governor Basir Salangi on Monday reported that a number of illegal weapons stores, amounting to a total of nearly 100 heavy and light firearms, have been discovered by security forces. Governor Salangi said that troops were in the process of confiscating the weapons from around the province and said that 12 suspected murderers and 15 illegally armed men have been arrested during the operations.

08/25/14 Agencies: Roadside bomb blast kills four Afghan soldiers At least four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were martyred following roadside bomb explosion, defence officials said yesterday. General Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the Afghani Ministry of Defence (MoD), said the four Afghan soldiers were martyred following improvised explosive device (IED) attack in the past 24 hours.

08/25/14 DoD: Army Casualties Identified Sgt. Christopher W. Mulalley, 26, of Eureka, Calif., died Aug. 22, in Gardez, Afghanistan, as the result of a non-combat related incident. The incident is under investigation. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
