Job Title:  Court Clerk
Pay Rate:  $8.77/hr-$10.00/hr
Department: Municipal Court                                              
JOB SUMMARY:
This position performs difficult clerical tasks in maintaining computerized court records and in
receiving and accounting for court revenue.  Indexes, posts, and maintains information in
Magistrate’s Dockets.  Sends bond information to county court at law.  Collects fees on tickets
paid and issues receipts.  Performs various duties associated with trial preparation to include
the preparations of jury summons, subpoenas, trial docket, complaints, and officer’s list, and
assists with research on cases.   Work involves considerable public contact in providing
information and receiving inquiries or complaints.  Work schedule includes working nights and
weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in secretarial and clerical work.
Knowledge of the standard practices, procedures, and operation of a municipal court
system.
Ability to make minor administrative decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, and
departmental policies and procedures.
Knowledge of receipting process and daily deposits.
Graduation from high school including or supplemented by courses in typing and business
practices or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Ability to speak Spanish fluently.
Ability to type 50 wpm
Must be able to work alternating weekends.
Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Administrative work; sits at a desk to work.  Involves occasional light lifting of 0 to 25 pounds.
Applicant must successfully pass a pre-employment Drug and Alcohol screening
and Background check prior to employment by the City of Harlingen.

You'd think with a $165,000 a year city attorney and a $165,000 a year city manager they could not discriminate in the hiring of a close to minimum wage job!

You wern't going to get the job anyway, even if you could speak Spanish.
