The Pampered Chief!

Castillo was a “Pampered Chief ” and now wants to be a “Pampered Commissioner.”
Did you know?
Dan Castillo did not qualify as an applicant for Harlingen Police Chief in 2001, until the City removed the longstanding requirement for a college degree, which allowed Castillo to apply. Castillo applied without a college degree, and was hired.  As Chief, Castillo was supervising officers with master’s degrees in Criminal Justice.  How do you think this affected morale at HPD?
During his service, gang crime in Harlingen increased by 50%, but decreased in McAllen and Brownsville, according to the official report by the Harlingen Gang Task Force.  Despite the poor performance, the City’s old establishment treated Castillo with kid gloves.
Fast-forward to 2011. Castillo wants to be District 1 Commissioner AND be the City Administrator for Santa Rosa at the same time, which is clearly a conflict of interest.  Castillo told KGBT TV he believes there is no conflict.  Once again, the old establishment is pampering him, with over $13,000 in contributions and turning a blind eye to the conflict of interest.
District 1 deserves better. Elect an independent commissioner who is not pampered by the wealthy establishment whose only goal is to control the District 1 Commission Vote.
Make your voice be heard on Friday, December 16, 2011 by voting at Long Elementary School between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

First of all, Chief Rodriguez was the first Chief of Police in Harlingen to be selected with the provision that applicants have a degree - so it was not a long standing requirement. Rodriguez lasted about 90 days. The next chief was Blake. He had a degree but lasted about a year. Castillo served as the Assistant Chief under both Rodriguez and Blake and as Acting Chief when they left. He learned a lot during that time and naturally was a front runner for the chief’s job. A degree does not equate to either intelligence or ability. As for officers with master’s degrees, who are they? Yes, there were/are several officers with associate and bachelor's degrees and many of them are patrol grade officers that have not advanced because they are unable to successfully compete on written exams.

I am taking the high road. I am not calling you names or making crude suggestions. You sir do not represent your candidate well, you do her a disservice. Your strategy of insults and profanity is sure to cost her votes.
