CONGRATULATIONS TO DANNY CASTILLO ON HIS VICTORY!

HARLINGEN CITY COMMISSION DISTRICT ONE CONSISTS OF APPROXIMATELY 6,000 REGISTERED VOTERS ACCORDING TO THE LATEST LIST FROM THE CAMERON COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE.  ON FRIDAY, A TOTAL OF 581 REGISTERED VOTERS VOTED (WHICH INCLUDED THE EARLY VOTERS).  DOING THE MATH, THAT BREAKS DOWN TO 9.7% OF ALL ELIGIBLE VOTERS ACTUALLY VOTING FOR ONE OF THE THREE CANDIDATES.  BREAKING IT DOWN EVEN FURTHER,  5.8% OF ALL REGISTERED VOTERS VOTED FOR DANNY CASTILLO.  HARDLY A MANDATE FROM THE PEOPLE TO GOVERN.  WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT DISTRICT ONE IN PARTICULAR AND CITYWIDE VOTERS IN GENERAL?  WE HAVE A PROBLEM HOUSTON.  NONE OF THE THREE CANDIDATES GENERATED ENOUGH INTEREST FOR THE VOTERS TO GET EXCITED AND COME OUT IN DROVES TO THE POLLS.  APATHY IS ANOTHER EXCUSE.  HOLDING THE ELECTION ON A FRIDAY DURING SCHOOL HOURS AT LONG ELEMENTARY IN ALSO AN EXCUSE.  BEING A SPECIAL ELECTION AND THE ONLY RACE IN ALL OF TEXAS YESTERDAY COULD BE A FACTOR.  HOLDING THE ELECTION JUST NINE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS COULD BE THE REASON.  OR, IT COULD JUST BE THE MISERABLE WEATHER: COLD, WINDY, AND WET THAT SUPPRESSED THE VOTE.  WHATEVER REASON YOU CHOOSE, YOU GET WHAT YOU VOTE FOR, AND IN THIS CASE LESS THAN 10% OF ALL ELIGIBLE VOTERS BOTHERED TO EXERCISE THEIR DEMOCRATIC RIGHT TO VOTE.  REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED IN GERMANY OR RUSSIA WHEN PEOPLE QUIT GOING TO THE POLLS!

ON A SIDE NOTE, THE POLL WHICH WE RAN ON THIS SITE ACCURATELY CHOSE THE WINNER OF FRIDAYS RACE.  IF YOU LOOK TO THE RIGHT ON THIS PAGE YOU WILL SEE THE RESULTS.  REMOVE THE FEW POLL VOTES WHO VOTED NONE OR OTHER AND YOU GET THE FOLLOWING RESULTS FROM OUR POLL.

CASTILLO----------60.8% OF CB POLL VOTERS
CASTILLO----------59.6% OF ACTUAL VOTERS
MOORE-------------32.1% OF CB POLL VOTERS
MOORE-------------35.5% OF ACTUAL VOTERS
GONZALES--------07.2% OF CB POLL VOTERS
GONZALES--------05.1% OF ACTUAL VOTERS
