04/13/17 KP: Panic among Taliban in Kunduz after the death of Mullah Abdul Salam A panic has erupted among the Taliban insurgents in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan following the death of the group’s most senior leader Mullah Abdul Salam. The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), said the majority of the Taliban insurgents are seeking different ways to escape from the battlefield after the killing of Mullah Salam.

04/13/17 KP: ISIS terror group’s main shadow judge killed in East of Afghanistan The main shadow judge of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group was killed during an operation in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. The 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan National Army in a statement said Mullah Salah was killed along with scores of other militants during the ongoing Hamza military operations.

04/13/17 KP: 132 ISIS terrorists killed in Afghanistan in past 6 days At least 132 loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group were killed during the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in East of Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defense (MoD) officials said Thursday that the militants were killed in the past six days during the anti-ISIS operations being conducted under the name of Hamza operations.

04/13/17 KP: 89 insurgents killed in Afghan forces operations in past 24 hours At least eighty nine insurgents belonging to the various militant groups including the Taliban insurgents group were killed during the counter-terrorism operations in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Thursday. A statement by MoD said the operations were conducted in the various parts of the country and as a result at least 47 insurgents were also wounded and at least 8 others including local commanders of the Taliban group were arrested.

At least 132 loyalists of the ISIS terror group have been killed by security forces in Nangarhar province over the past six days, Ministry of Defense officials told Afghan news agency Khaama Press.

04/13/17 NYTimes: U.S. drops "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan, marking weapon's first use The U.S. dropped a bomb containing 11 tons of explosives on an ISIS cave complex in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on the border with Pakistan on Thursday, a Pentagon spokesman confirmed to CBS News’ David Martin. The bomb is officially called a GBU-43 or Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), leading to its nickname as the “mother of all bombs.” The weapon is the largest non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal and has never before been used in combat.

04/12/17 KP: 4 large heroin factories destroyed by Afghan forces in Nangarhar The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) personnel destroyed four large heroin factories in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in a statement said the factories were destroyed during a special military operation conducted late on Tuesday night in the vicinity of Ghani Khel district.

The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), said the detained Taliban leader has been identified as Akhtar Mohammad who was also famous as Belal.

04/12/17 abna24: ISIS suicide bomber detonates explosives, kills 5 people in Kabul A statement by the Afghan Interior Ministry reported several more people were wounded, while a Defence Ministry spokesman said at least one civilian and two members of the Afghan security forces were among the casualties, adding that the target appeared to be a police post near military headquarters.

04/12/17 NPR: 300 Marines To Deploy To Afghanistan One of the toughest parts of the U.S. war in Afghanistan took place in Helmand province. More Marines died there than in any other part of the country. Now some of those Marines are going back. Three hundred will deploy to Helmand province by the end of the month. This comes after the Taliban recaptured a strategic district in Helmand just a couple weeks ago. Marine Corps Brigadier General Roger Turner is leading this mission. I asked him to describe the kind of fight his forces will face.
