04/20/16 KP: Taliban suffer heavy casualties in operations led by Gen. Dostum in Jawzjan The Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum has returned to the battlefield in northern Jawzjan province as local officials report the Taliban insurgents have suffered heavy casualties. Provincial governor’s spokesman Mohammad Reza Ghafoori said at least 30 Taliban insurgents have been killed and nearly 40 others have sustained injuries during the operations.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement said at least 4 militants were also arrested during the same operations.

Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, said the attacker was identified as Abdul Saboor and was arrested by the security forces four years after the incident.

04/20/16 KP: Taliban military commission chief killed in Afghan intelligence operatives raid The military commission chief of the Taliban group for eastern Paktia province has been killed during a special military operation conducted by the Afghan intelligence operatives. The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said Qari Zubair was killed along with three others accompanying him during an operation in Logar province.

Tuesday’s attack in the capital, Kabul, which targeted a directorate responsible for the security of high-level officials and dignitaries, also injured 347 people, including women and children, said Sediq Sediqqi, a ministry spokesman.

04/19/16 BBC: Deadly suicide bomb hits Kabul At least 28 people have been killed and 329 injured in a huge explosion in the centre of the Afghan capital Kabul, police and officials say. A suicide attacker detonated a vehicle and gunmen stormed the area, reports say. Officials say the gunfight is now over and the area has been cleared. A Taliban spokesman said the group carried out the attack. It comes a week after it said it was launching its "spring offensive", warning of large-scale attacks.
