03/11/14 KP: Roadside explosion kills 3 polio vaccinators in Helmand At least three polio vaccinators were killed following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan. According to local government officials, the incident took place Tuesday at midday near Sangin district after their vehicle struck with the improvised explosive device (IED).

03/11/14 KP: British-Swedish journalist shot dead in capital Kabul A British-Swedish journalist was shot dead by unknown gunmen in capital Kabul on Tuesday, police officials said. The incident took place near a busy roundabout in Wazir Akbar area of Kabul city on Tuesday morning. Nils Horner who was working for a Swedish radio was injured following the attack and succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The gunman who used a pistol with a silencer managed to flee the area after opening fire on Mr. Horner.

03/10/14 KP: 5 Taliban militants killed, 6 others injured in Afghan police operations At least 5 Taliban militants were killed and 6 others were injured following military operations by Afghan national security forces. The operations were conducted by Afghan national police in coordination with the Afghan national army and Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives during the past 24 hours.

03/09/14 VOA: Afghanistan's First Vice President Dies An Afghan government spokesman says one of the country's two vice presidents, Field Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, has died at the age of 57. The official said Fahim died of natural causes on Sunday. He added that three days of national mourning would be held.

03/09/14 AP: Bombings kill 11 civilians across southern Afghanistan this weekend A roadside bomb ripped through a car in southern Afghanistan, the deadliest of a series of weekend attacks that killed 11 civilians, officials said Sunday. Seven people, including three women and two children, were killed and eight others wounded when the car was hit while travelling in the volatile Helmand province, according to a statement by the provincial governor's office.
