NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is recovering after sustaining a concussion, the State Department said Saturday.

The 65-year-old Clinton had been suffering from a stomach virus, became dehydrated and fainted, Philippe Reines, deputy assistant secretary to Clinton, said in a statement.
Clinton’s condition was being monitored by her doctors, who advised her to work from home, which she will do in the week ahead, Reines said.
The secretary of state, who canceled a trip to North Africa and the Persian Gulf on Monday due to the illness, “is looking forward to being back in the office soon,” he added of Clinton.
Clinton is expected to resign as secretary of state soon after President Obama’s second term begins in January. Clinton, who lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Obama in 2012, has been mentioned as a possible candidate in 2016, when term limits force Obama to leave the White House. Sen. John Kerry, (D., Mass.), another former presidential contender, is considered the leading candidate to replace Clinton as secretary of state.
