READ: NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — A Taliban attack on a coalition base in Afghanistan killed two U.S. soldiers and destroyed six Harrier jets, according to reports Sunday.

The attack on Camp Bastion/Camp Leatherneck, the main base in the country for U.S. Marines and U.K. forces, began Friday night, said The Wall Street Journal. The paper said 14 Taliban were killed; one surviving insurgent was taken into custody.

The two men were shot and fatally wounded by a rogue Afghan Local Policeman in Checkpoint Tora in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

09/16/12 AP: 8 women killed in NATO airstrike, Afghan officials say Afghan officials say a NATO airstrike killed eight women and girls who were out gathering firewood before dawn Sunday in a remote region on the east of the country. The coalition says it believes only insurgents were hit. Villagers from Laghman province's Alingar district brought the bodies to the governor's office in the provincial capital, said Sarhadi Zewak, a spokesman for the provincial government.

Osborn, 26, of Lafayette, Ind., died Sep. 13 in Muqer, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Camp Ederle, Vicenza, Italy.

09/14/12 AP: 2 U.S. Marines killed in Afghan insurgent attack Heavily armed insurgents have attacked a British air base in southern Afghanistan, killing two U.S. Marines and wounding several other troops, U.S. officials said. Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, is stationed at the base on a four-month combat tour. There was no immediate word on his whereabouts at the time of the attack.
