08/05/12 sbs: Two New Zealanders have been killed and six wounded in Afghanistan's Bamyan province Six wounded NZ soldiers, three of whom are in a serious condition, are being treated in military hospitals. Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Rhys Jones told a briefing in Auckland on Sunday that one of the soldiers killed on Saturday was in an armoured vehicle hit by a rocket while the other was shot by a rifle or a machine gun. One died immediately and the other died in a helicopter while being evacuated.

08/04/12 BNA: 3 Armed Taliban Insurgents Killed In Kandahar The security police of Kandahar province killed three armed Taliban who wanted to abduct a number of tribal elders in that province today. Jaweed Faisal spokesman of Kandahar governor said to BNA, the clash occurred between Taliban and frontier police when Taliban abducted three tribal elders of Sakhail area of Maroof district on charges of joining their tribes to police forces.

"One armed Taliban insurgent was injured and three others detained by the joint forces during the five joint cleanup operation carried out in Kabul, Balkh, Paktika and Pakita provinces over the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.
