08/12/12 Reuters: Afghan officials met key Taliban figure in Pakistan Afghan officials have held secret talks with the Taliban's former second in command who is in detention in Pakistan in a move which could help rekindle stalled peace talks with the insurgents, according to senior officials from both countries.

08/12/12 Tolonews: Four Policemen Killed in Paktia Blast Four Afghan policemen were killed in a roadside bomb blast in eastern Paktia province on Saturday evening, a local official said. Two other policemen were injured in the attack. The incident happened yesterday in the provincial capital Gardez when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb, provincial spokesman Rohullah Samoon said.

08/12/12 Tolonews: Bomb Kills District Governor in Laghman The governor of Laghman's Alisheing district was killed along with his three bodyguards in a bomb blast on Sunday, a local official said. The incident happened about noon local time in Alisheing, when district governor Faridullah Neyazi's vehicle hit a roadside bomb, provincial spokesman Sarhadi Zwak said.

08/11/12 DoD: Army Casualty Idenitified Master Sgt. Gregory R. Trent, 38, of Norton, Mass., died Aug. 8 in Bethesda, Md., from wounds suffered July 31 in Baktabad, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. Trent was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.

08/11/12 MoD: Lieutenant Andrew Chesterman killed in Afghanistan the Ministry of Defence must announce the death of Lieutenant Andrew Robert Chesterman of the 3rd Battalion The Rifles, who died as a result of wounds sustained by enemy action in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province on 9 August 2012. Lieutenant Chesterman was commanding a vehicle patrol when the lead vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. As he moved forward to take control of the situation the patrol was engaged by insurgent small arms fire and Lieutenant Chesterman was shot.

08/11/12 BNA: 3 Taliban Rebels Killed In Kandahar Three Taliban rebels were killed in a clash in Kandahar province. Jaweed Faisal spokesman of Kandahar governor said to BNA, Taliban attacked on a local police post in Naher Karez area, Zheri district, in which three armed Taliban were killed, heavy and light arms of them were remained in the spot. In this clash, two local policemen were slightly wounded, said the source.
