DeWitt police chief leaving post
DeWITT, Iowa — After less than a year on the job, DeWitt Police Chief Tom Whitten is leaving the job and returning to the southwestern United States. City officials in Carlsbad, N.M., confirmed Whitten will begin working as that city’s police chief around June 28, 2010. City Administrator Steve Lindner said Whitten informed city officials of his intent to resign, but has not officially submitted his resignation.

Carlsbad, New Mexico, Chief of Police Ellwood Thomas Whitten has applied for the Police Chief position in at least three cities including Harlingen, TX, Akron, Ohio, and Galveston, TX. Whitten served as Chief in DeWitt, Iowa for less than one year prior to heading up the Police Department in Carlsbad. He has served in that position for approximately 11 months. He is now vying with several others for the top job at the above mentioned three cities. The City of Harlingen has him on a very short list of finalists for the open position there. Who will be first to offer him a contract?
